New Almost $15 Million River Restoration Project is Washing Away Already
Santa Fe County is spending nearly $15 million on Section B of the Santa Fe River Greenway, and a local engineer says it’s already washing away.
Neil Williams, who drafted the original design concept for this stretch, showed 505OMATIC how the contractor installed boulders a fraction of the size the plans require. He warns they won’t survive a major flood, which could leave taxpayers to cover the cost of rebuilding... if the County doesn't take action.
Williams says the structures should be torn out and rebuilt.
More money for the next phases of the Greenway is on the November 3 ballot in Bond Question 3.
505OMATIC attempted to contact VITAL Consulting Group, and AECOM, none responded with a comment by our deadline.
Santa Fe County sent this statement:
"We sent a corrective action letter and specification for corrective work to Vital Consulting Group, the project contractor that completed the work in question. They agreed to do the corrective work, which will commence when river conditions allow."
