NM Election 2026 A Guide for "Judicial Retention"

During elections, some choices can be difficult to have a strong opinion on. One of the most perplexing regards "Judicial Retention," where voters need to vote to RETAIN or NOT RETAIN a judge in their district. Luckily New Mexico has the Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission (JPEC), a non-partisan organization "created to... improve the performance of judges; and provide useful, credible information to voters on all judges standing for retention during elections."

505OMATIC's J. Alex the Technologist sat down with the JPEC Vice Chair Lee Hunt at his law office to understand who's involved in the JPEC, how they evaluate judges, and what recommendations and information they provide for New Mexico voters.

The evaluations can be found on their website www.nmjpec.org
