Skipper's "Enigma"

Enigma, the posthumous showing of George "Skipper" Captain's artwork is now on display at RELAY until September 26 and Sun & Dust until September 30. This is the first public presentation of an extensive body of work by a local known as the "Tintmeister" by his customers at a Santa Fe paint shop, because of his incredible color matching skills. While his artwork spans many decades and he worked in many mediums, he was not known as an artist in his day to day life and choose greatly to keep his work private until his final days.

In addition to the incredible representations of color in oil and pastel, Skipper's soil pigments, personally collected from locations around Northern New Mexico and hand processed in his studio are particularly of note. His use of pigments, conventional and unconventional open a window to his appreciation of the landscapes and skies of his chosen home in Santa Fe.
