State Offers Free Water Filters for Those Living in the La Cieneguilla Toxic PFAs Plume

La Cieneguilla sits on the edge of a massive underground chemical plume that’s been poisoning private wells for years.
State officials say toxic PFAS chemicals have contaminated groundwater west of the Santa Fe airport, likely from firefighting foam used in military training. About 175 parcels fall within the affected zone.
The state is now offering free water filtration systems, some costing up to $5,000, with $2 million set aside for filters and plumbing upgrades.
